It's really busy right now on Anna Maria Island, not least because of a booming tourist season. We're also building properties as 'in-fill' development left and right, particularly in Holmes Beach, but island-wide too, in support of that rental market.
So the traffic is extra heavy. Be careful, let walkers cross the road at ANY intersection, share with bikers, and take the trolley (it's free) if you don't have to be somewhere fast. You're not getting there fast anyway.
Think of it as 'Island Time.'
