The new rules on Homestead Portability which were enacted by citizen's vote on Tuesday, January 29, are complex. Here's a link to the State of Florida's Portability site, wherein all questions may be answered.
For those sellers who made transactions during 2007 (the rule allows limited retroactive portability), and hope to transfer their homestead exemptions in 2007 or early 2008, timing is critical. Application MUST be made by March 1, 2008.
